3. What cars can I charge at a chargEV station?

All the Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) or Electric Vehicles (EV) officially sold in the Malaysian market are compatible with the chargEV chargers which feature Type 2, CCS-2 or CHAdeMO connectors. Use the chargEV app to view and filter the charging station connectors.

4. What is a compatible charging cable/connector?

Our charging stations are fitted with a type 2 charging outlet. So, Type 2 charging cables are needed to plug-in. Sometimes your car dealer includes this in your purchase. You can also buy them online.

5. What is a Type 1 and 2 connector?

Oue operating countries adopt the standards set by the IEC for AC charging stations. Generally, Type 1 is known as the Japanese or J-plug and Type 2 is common for Continental cars.

6. What is the difference between AC and DC chargers?

The difference between the two is the charging time. DC chargers give you faster charging speeds at higher power levels.

7. What are the different power levels of charging?

Alternating Current (AC) Charging

AC charging comprises of either Mode 2 or Mode 3 charging. Charging speeds and times are defined by the output power/rate in kW in relation to the EVs battery size in kWh. Each vehicle’s rate is limited by its on-board charger (OBC) which controls the power into the battery.

Direct Current (DC) Charging

Faster EVSE charging speeds is delivered by Mode 4, DC charging hardware, capable of power output exceeding 22 kW by directly connecting to an EV’s battery instead of via the OBC, for charging times below 50, 30 and even 10 minutes.

8. How do I use chargEV charger?

Step 1   At the station, make sure the charging connector is connected to your EV

Step 2   Tap on the “Start Charging” button of the location in your chargEV app

9. How long does it take to charge an EV?

Depending on the charger’s power output and your EV’s battery capacity, a charge duration from 20 percent to 80 percent varies:

AC charging speed: 3-5 hours

DC charging speed: <50 minutes all the way down to <10 minutes

10. Is there a limit to occupy a chargEV parking lot? What if I exceed the limit?

Generally, a 3-hour charging session is the standard expectation before the car will be required to move. If one exceeds the charge time limit, a penalty will be imposed, in the form of credit deduction from your membership or additional charge via the Pay-per–use method.

chargEV is continuously growing, we have a strong plan for new charging stations and members will be notified of new chargers via our chargEV FB page and email.

15. What do the different kW labels mean on the Charging Station Details page?

The kW labels refer to the maximum charging power that is capable of being delivered by the station. However your EV may charge at a lower kW charging rate depending on the particular vehicle make and model, this applies to both AC and DC charging stations. For example – a BMW iX would only get 11 kW at a 22kW chargEV Type 2 Charger due to the vehicle’s limitations.

16. Are charging fees different based on my EV kW charging rate limitation?

The charging fees displayed on the chargEV app are constant regardless of what the charging rate limitations of the EV are, this includes charging fees based on time in per minute blocks and based on energy per kWh.
